With winds upwards of 20 mph, anything can happen in a softball game. Well in Syracuse’s 6 to 5 win over Georgia Tech today that was the case. McKenzie Foster hit what should have been a single to left field but the win carried it over the left fielder’s head and scored Laila Morales-Alves from first to mark Syracuse’s first win against the Yellow Jackets since 2017. After the game, Syracuse head coach Shannon Doepking said she told her squad to just go win it.
“Yeah I mean go win a ball game you know. That’s all it was that simple like control yourself, control your emotions right but at the end of the day get a good pitch that you can put a good swing on and just compete. For the most part, it was pretty zipped up you know. I think the wind kind of played some factors into this but as far as the stuff that was on the field right it wasn’t um you know I think it was a lot cleaner than we’ve seen in a little while so you know I was happy with uh that I was happy with you know the pitchers being a staff today right understanding we needed all of them”
With the walk-off victory, the Orange tied the series with the yellow jackets at one-to-one. Tomorrow both teams can come back to pick up a series win and for SU it could be their first ACC Series win of the season.
