Syracuse takes down cross city foe Le Moyne in a double header sweep

It’s been a roller coaster of a season for Syracuse softball so far. Five-game win streaks were halted by five-game losing streaks. However, one thing that’s been consistent for the Orange all year long has been its approach at the plate. And that’s what led Syracuse to a doubleheader sweep over Le Moyne today 8 to 6 in game one and 6 to1 in game two. After the games head coach Shannon Doepking and players expressed that there’s one thing that they’ve changed with their approach at the plate.

“I mean hitting’s contagious right like it comes and it goes and you know it’s kind of a roller coaster. It’s kind of a roller coaster you know what I mean and I think that we were down for a decent amount of time and you know like again it’s just kind of swinging our way right now so hopefully we can continue it into the weekend we’re going to obviously need to hit. Virginia Tech hits the living crap out of the ball so you know it’s uh going to be a good challenge for us 100%.”

“I would say that um hitting is contagious. It’s one of those things that you know if you see your teammates doing it you’re obviously going to get up there and try to do the same thing so I think that’s kind of one of the arts of hitting. However I think when our teammates are down or we’re helping you know pick someone up that’s having that same ability and saying you know I got your back and I’m keeping the ball rolling and just passing the bat best we can.”

“It definitely gives me confidence when I see other girls roping the ball um so if they’re able to get on base then I’m able to score them if I’m able to get on base and they’re able to score me. So uh it was definitely um definitely kind of a what’s infectious energy today at the plate I think.”

While tallying 20 hits against a Northeast 10 opponent may be impressive, Syracuse now has to shift its focus to a top 20 ACC foe in Virginia Tech. The Hokies have beaten the Orange in every contest since 2018 and if SU can’t pick up at least one game against Virginia Tech then the Orange’s chances at a postseason birth may be gone.
