Syracuse Tennis defeats Buffalo 6-1 in its last non-conference match
Trying to defeat, let alone dominate, the opposition’s number one doubles pairing is no easy task. But, Syracuse Tennis was able to do so in today’s 6-1 win over Buffalo.
The Bulls’ number one pairing consists of Esmee Andresen, an All-MAC First Conference player last season, along with Maria Glowacka. But for Syracuse’s Serafima Shastova and Monika Wojcik, they were able to take them down in under 20 minutes, sweeping 6-0.
“Yeah, I think that was huge for us. Extremely proud of them. I think we talked and so happy to see that they learned from their last match. I think last match they played, they were up 5-2 and things didn’t go the way they wanted. But we talked a lot about playing with a sense of urgency and really when we’re having the momentum, trying to finish matches, and it was huge for us to put us on the scoreboard and to give a lot of confidence to the other teams that were battling over there”, SU Head Coach Younes Limam said.
So maybe things got a little better for Andresen, Glowacka in singles play? Well, not exactly. They were both swept by SU’s Serafima Shastova and Nelly Knezkova in two sets.
So Syracuse ends non-conference play 4-3, but the real test starts right now. And their reward for a victory here today is a date with No. 3 UNC next Friday. The Tarheels have six players ranked inside ITA’s Top 125. Reporting from Drumlins, Evan Zaretsky, Citrus TV.
