Syracuse Tennis Drops a Heartbreaker to Notre Dame 4-3

In a normal college tennis dual, there are 6 singles matches. But what happens when you forfeit 2 of them? Well, in the Orange’s case, it means a 4-3 loss to Notre Dame on Sunday. And despite Viktoriya Kanapatskaya and Sonya Trescheva not competing in the singles slate, Head Coach Younes Limam was proud of the fight his players showed.

“Super, super proud of every single one of them. We had our backs against the wall on Friday and today, and we responded,” Limam said. “All you can do is control what you can, and I couldn’t be prouder of the fight and team spirit of our team.”

Now the 3 points the Orange did win this afternoon, 2 of them came in the form of a super tiebreak, the first one coming courtesy of sophomore Ines Fonte. And Coach Limam says she took a page out of Ted Lasso’s book with the memory of a goldfish.

“Ines from a year ago, she would’ve easily, after having so many opportunities on the first set, I think she had two set points on the first set and ended up losing that set in a tough way, but she bounced back,” Limam said. “And I think that’s the thing we’re so proud of her –  having a short memory when things are not going her way.”

The Orange get just one more chance to play tennis at Drumlins this season against BC on Sunday. Follow along @CitrusTVSports on Twitter for live updates from the dual.
