On Court 3, in a match where passion was on full display, Zeynep Erman sprung an upset over the 8th ranked singles player in the country, Alexa Noel, which guided Syracuse (9-0, 3-0 ACC) to 5-2 victory over No. 23 Miami (5-2, 1-1 ACC). Head Coach Younes Limam explained what it took for the senior to pull off the unlikely feat.
“I think Zeynep [Erman], from Day 1, we all know she has a big game and I think sometimes it takes a little bit of time to put all the pieces together. She has a huge forehand, huge serve and when she commits and does those two things very well, obviously the sky’s the limit for her. To step in against a top ten player and play the way she played and handled the occasion the way she did was very impressive and I am sure she will take a lot of confidence from today,” said Limam.
Limam also touched on the team effort, mentioning, “They play for each other. I think it goes a long way, competing and having that mindset of refusing to lose.”
The Orange were dominated in doubles but flipped the switch in singles, winning five of those six matches to improve to 9-0 in the season. Next up, another top 25 opponent awaits as Syracuse welcomes No. 20 Virginia on Friday at 3 p.m.
