Syracuse Volleyball Channels CNY Pride to Defeat St. John’s
When Syracuse volleyball (8-2, 0-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) fell down 2-1 in Saturday’s match against St. John’s (4-9, 0-0 Big East Conference), all looked lost for the Orange.
However, they rallied, and they found a way to win despite the deficit.
Head Coach Bakeer Ganesharatnam said it was a performance that Central New York can be proud of.
“We pretty much started this program from scratch,” Ganesharatnam said. “When we did that, we wanted to build a team that reflects the identity of Central New York. We are not New York City, we are Central New York. We’re blue collar. We’re gritty. We have to work for what we get. We want to make sure that this team reflects that.”
“We’re undersized,” Ganesharatnam added. “We’re always going to be the underdog. We have to work for what we’re getting. We’ve got to fight. I think this is exactly what we want to represent as a community [and as] a team.”
SU is off to a hot start with an 8-2 record as it wraps up non-conference play. However, ACC play is where things get real, and get real fast. SU finished with a 3-17 conference record last season despite a 12-0 undefeated non-conference record.
The Orange face Notre Dame on Friday at 6:30 p.m. to begin their ACC slate this season.
