Syracuse WLAX defeats Notre Dame, 15-7, in another Top-15 matchup

With five days ‘till St. Patty’s Day, Notre Dame couldn’t draw the luck of the Irish just yet. Syracuse took this one 15-7, and from the jump it was scrappy. Notre Dame came out of the half on a mission, outscoring SU 4-1 in the third quarter. Head Coach Kayla Treanor talked about her team’s perseverance.

Treanor: “There was a lot of emotions for both teams (and coaching staffs), we just had to stay neutral and take a deep breath, relax and know that we’re in control of the game. We played three really great quarters of Syracuse lacrosse. I think we had a tough third quarter, but I’m proud of the girls’ for staying in it and finishing the game.”

Defender Hallie Simkins, who had a career-high four ground balls, also shed some light on her team’s performance. “I think we’ve really created a completely unique identity for ourselves this year. Defensively we know that it doesn’t matter what the other team is doing. Coming out in the fourth quarter, just keep that mindset and keep playing Syracuse lacrosse.”

Today’s win against the Fighting Irish marked just the second time in program history that the Orange have started off their season 7-0. They look to extend to 8-0 for the first time ever, as they head down to Loyola to continue their stretch of top-15 matchups.
