Syracuse Women’s Ice Hockey falls to Mercyhurst, 3-2

(Gino Antimarino) Most people love what’s inside a pizza box, but not everybody loves the penalty box. (1:00:08) In Syracuse Women’s Ice Hockey’s 3-2 loss to Mercyhurst tonight, both teams found themselves in the sin bin 12 minutes each. (1:00:16) The Orange scored on just one of their power plays, but went perfect on the PK. (1:00:21) Here’s what Coach Brittany Smith had to say about her special teams after the game.

(Britni Smith) (1:00:25) I thought we did a great job, you know, some really big efforts from Sarah Thompson especially. (1:00:31) And then big blocks from Darcy Johall as well. (1:00:33) So those are the type of efforts that we need to see on our penalty kill. (1:00:37) And I thought that everyone just kind of bought in and did a really good job of getting through those. (1:00:42) Yeah, we’ll have to do a little bit of film.(1:00:43) Again, I thought we did a really good job of staying patient and continuing to, you know, after blocks we were recovering pucks. (1:00:51) We were keeping pucks in their zone. (1:00:52) It’s not like we were chasing it back and forth. (1:00:54) So there was a lot of good that came out of it, a lot of possession time. (1:00:58) And now just finding where we can have maybe more threatening opportunities. (1:01:03)

(Gino Antimarino) Syracuse might have spent a lot of time in the penalty box, but one place that it doesn’t have a whole lot of time left to spend is here at Tenedy Ice Pavilion.

(1:01:11) The Orange close out the season against this same Lakers squad tomorrow. (1:01:15) Puck drop is at 3 o’clock. (1:01:17) Reporting from Tenedy Ice Pavilion, I’m Gino Antimarino, Citrus TV.
