Syracuse Women’s Lacrosse Downs Maryland 20-11 for Second Straight Top-Five Win

Last week, Syracuse women’s lacrosse and Northwestern went down to the wire. Tonight, against No. 2 Maryland, it was an entirely different story. The Orange had an offensive explosion and downed the Terrapins 20-11. Those goals were on just 29 shots and SU had eight different players find the back of the net. After beating UMD for just the third time ever, head coach Kayla Treanor is incredibly pleased with her team’s mentality.

“They’ve bought into what we’re promoting and teaching,” said Treanor. “I’m just so proud of them, they showed so much trust and belief in each other. Regardless of the score of the game, I’m really proud of them. I’m proud of this team and the people that they are becoming.”

Despite a career-high 11 points from attacker Meaghan Tyrrell, this game could’ve looked a whole lot different if it wasn’t for goalie Delaney Sweitzer. The senior made 13 saves, which brings her season total up to 24. It’s easy to have success when you play well at both ends of the field.

“We’ve been preparing very well for this type of competition,” explained Sweitzer. “The connections we have off the field have really transitioned well onto the field. We’re just ready to keep going, keep being ready for the next matchup.”

Syracuse improves to 2-0 after both victories came against top-five opponents. Next up is a meeting with Binghamton in the JMA Wireless Dome at 4 p.m. on Monday.
