Syracuse Women’s Lacrosse Topples Brown in NCAA Tournament First Round
Syracuse women’s lacrosse and Brown both entered Friday’s NCAA Tournament game on a three-game losing streak.
In the end, it was the Orange who ended their skid — and ended the Bears’ season — with a 15-9 win at Yale’s Reese Stadium. 14 days off between games proved all the ’Cuse needed to reset.
“This season we’ve been up, we’ve been down, and I know towards the end of the year we were down after the ACC Tournament,” SU head coach Kayla Treanor said.
“But I think the time off was great for us. We’ve really come together as a group. We had a great week of practice, we were just focused on ourselves.”
The ’Cuse was led by a familiar face who’s “been there and done that” in the NCAA Tournament. SU super senior Emma Ward scored three goals for her first hat trick since late February, and added three assists for a six-point day.
“They are prepared. They know what it takes,” Treanor said of her veteran leaders. “Having that will to win in pressure moments, when you feel really prepared, you have a little bit more confidence.”
“These guys played really confident today. Their experience in this tournament has really helped us.”
The win sets up a rematch between Syracuse and 7th-seeded Yale on Sunday. The Orange eliminated the Bulldogs from the NCAA Tournament last season, but lost to Yale at Reese Stadium in April.
