Syracuse Women’s Soccer Falls in Heartbreaking 2-1 Loss to Clemson
Frustration, anguish, despair, and all the other adjectives were felt for Syracuse women’s soccer today. Tied up with Clemson going into the final ten seconds, the Tigers scored on a free kick with six ticks left to hand the Orange a 2-1 loss, ruining what would have been a rare positive outcome for SU in ACC play. After the game, head coach Nicky Thrasher Adams was distraught about the late-game officiating handed to her team.
“It’s just frustrating, right? You’d never want a referee to determine the outcome of a game,” she said. “Just ref the game, don’t give it to another team. That’s what’s frustrating is our girls worked so hard and then seven seconds determined the game because of a call that should have never stopped the clock? I don’t understand it, so frustration for my team that we could have got a point out of this for sure.”
Despite the loss, Syracuse finally broke a four-game scoreless drought when senior Mia Klammer found the back of the net just three minutes into the game. To add onto the positives, Cuse goalie Shea Vanderbosch also racked up 11 saves.
“She’s a stud, this was probably her best overall performance all year,” coach Thrasher Adams said. “She was clean in her saves, decision-making was good, her clearances were good, she was fantastic, player of the game.”
Syracuse let one slip aside today, but it gets another chance to pick up it’s first ACC win on the road next weekend when it travels to the U. SU and Miami do battle Saturday night at 7:00. For now, reporting from SU Soccer Stadium, Cole Purvis, CitrusTV.
