Syracuse Women’s Soccer Gets Complete Performance to Topple Cornell
Today was just another day at the office for Shea Vanderbosch. The difference this time, she got some help. The senior notched her fifth clean sheet of the season and her offense snapped a two-game scoreless streak in Syracuse’s 3-0 win over Cornell. The Orange take care of business in their last game of non-conference play.
“I think we had glimpses over the last three games, but it wasn’t complete,” Syracuse head coach Nicki Thrasher Adams said after the game. “I love the adjustments we made at halftime, came out and buried the game. It was a really, really good performance by us today.”
“The shutouts have been key, right? We’re hard to break down right now. I think a lot of stuff that we’re giving up are long shots that, hey, we’ve got Shea Vanderbosch and that can handle that kind of stuff, but getting three good goals was awesome today from different players. One off a set piece, Anna Rupert with the breakaway, and then Mia Klammer. So, really good stuff,” she added.
Today’s performance was especially sweet considering it was Senior Day. Forward Anna Rupert, one of today’s goal scorers, describes the gratitude she has for all this program has given her.
“We’ve all been together for two or three years, so it’s amazing to be able to celebrate days like today with the people that we love and even the new girls coming in,” she said. “Every single one of them has fit right into our culture, into our program, into our standard. So it’s important for us to continue that and just lead by example in any way that we can. But, you know, at the end of the day, we just really like to have fun with each other. We celebrate every single person’s opportunities and success. And I think that’s really the difference this year.”
And now the season really kicks into gear as Syracuse starts its gauntlet schedule right here at home on Thursday night. The Orange take on the SMU Mustangs at 7:00 pm. For now though, reporting from SU Soccer Stadium, Cole Purvis, CitrusTV.
