Syracuse’s pitching leads them to a midweek 2 game sweep over Colgate

For pitchers in the game of softball, their day begins behind me in the bullpen with the goal of pitching as many innings as humanly possible. Well in game one of Syracuse’s doubleheader against Colgate, Lindsey Hendrix didn’t just pitch a complete seven Innings, but she added an extra two in the Oranges 2 to 1 victory over the Raiders. After the game head coach Shannon Doepking explained why she let her senior go out for those eighth and ninth Innings.

“Yeah I mean I think Lindsay obviously has the best change-up on the staff and I think the change-up was really really effective against them. Right so um I think knowing that even if she was getting a little bit tired right we still had the change up that we could rely on which kind of is the equalizer on a lot of this is it. I think the change up really frazzled them um you know and I thought even though eight she was still great.”

“Yeah honestly I was thinking earlier I don’t think I’ve thrown that long in a really long time. Um, I think it’s good. I mean I’ve been working really hard on like conditioning and being able to pitch for a long time so being able to stand that long I was pretty happy with my abilities today.”

It wasn’t just a dominant pitching matchup in game one in game two the Orange were led by Madison Knight’s four Innings out the gate and then Juliana Verni came in, finishing out the remaining three Innings and picking up another save. SU could keep this momentum going this weekend as they travel to South Orange, New Jersey to take on Seton Hall on Saturday. The first pitch is set for noon.
