Emily Streib has been a true star for the No. 8 Syracuse field hockey team. After never starting a game in the fall, the freshman goalie was put in the spotlight and has started every game for the Orange. She is 3-1 in her four career starts.

While the Syracuse defense is certainly playing up to speed to help Streib out, the stat sheet indicates stellar performances across the board. In three out of the four starts, the German has only let up one goal. Additionally, she has a goals against average of 1.22 and has made 10 saves on 15 shots faced. Streib has been a rock on the back end and that allows the defense and Head Coach Ange Bradley to not have to worry about the goalie position.

With goalies, a record is a big statistic that turns a lot of heads. While the entire team plays a role in winning or losing a game, the netminder is the one who gets that put on her game log. Streib’s 3-1 career record on the surface is outstanding, however, that one loss was against the best team she faced in No. 5 Louisville. With that said though, that game was a 1-0 loss that needed overtime. Additionally, the Cardinals had four of their nine shots in the extra period. The freshman finished that game with four saves and kept the Orange in it throughout regulation.

Streib’s strong performance shouldn’t come as a big surprise. The German won Outdoor State Championships in 2012, 2017, 2018, and 2019. The netminder also won Indoor State Championships in 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 in Germany. While those are impressive accolades, in 2016 the freshman was a member of the squad that finished third in the South German Championship. Streib is no stranger to the spotlight and that is key as Syracuse heads towards the final stretch of the spring season.

Syracuse is currently 1-1 against the ACC in the spring and its final three games are against ACC foes. Streib has the chance to personally have a .500 record against the Atlantic Coast when SU visits Chestnut Hill to play Boston College. That game is set to start at 1.
