Syracuse Wins Two More to Get Winning Streak to Five

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Syracuse Softball won both legs of its doubleheader today in two different fashions.
The early matchup against Iona saw the Orange completely shut down offensively. After falling behind 1-0 in the second, S.U. looked dead in the water. It took six innings before Syracuse got things going offensively.
Paris Woods smashed a one-out double to left field and eventually scored on a Neli CasaresMaher game-tying double. A couple hitters later, Kelly Breen was intentionally walked to bring up Taylor Posner with the bases loaded.
Gaels starter Samantha Rieb proceeded to strike her out and send the game to extra innings, where runners start on second base.
Ariana Adams continued her dominating week by getting out of a runner on third one-out jam by collecting two huge pop-outs.
Now with momentum, the Syracuse offense struck again. With Casares-Maher starting on second, Angel Jasso sent the fans home with a ringing double to left center to secure a 2-1 comeback win.
Ariana Adams deserves a lot of credit for the effort she showed in the circle today. The grad transfer threw all eight innings and only gave up 3 hits and one homer. She played the Gaels to the tune of 11 punch outs and only two walks.
Adams notched her third win of the year and the Orange’s 14th of the season.
After a quick break, S.U. then battled and beat down Hofstra 6-0 in the second game of the day.
This time, both sides of the ball showed up in full force. Lindsey Hendrix got the start and finished her seven innings of work with five strikeouts, one walk, and just two measly hits. The Pride couldn’t hit sand with a beachball all day against Hendrix as she improved her record to 5-2.
The sophomore was backed up by an eight hit performance from a lineup that desperately needed a boost. Tessa Galipeau’s run scoring single in the third drew first blood while a fifth inning RBI double by Jasso made it 2-0.
Kelly Breen was easily the hitter of the game with her two hits and four RBIs. Breen launched a three run homer out to left center field in the fifth and added an RBI double in the seventh for good measure.
A couple great games today combined with three more midweek wins in Maryland ups S.U.’s winning streak to five. Granite, the quality of opponents aren’t even close to the rest of the ACC, but wins are wins for this team.
Outside of reeling off five straight wins, Shannon Doepking’s squad spent its spring break sightseeing in Washington D.C. and Time Square. Unfortunately, the vacation ends with one more battle.
Next up is a day off Saturday before another game Sunday against Hofstra. First pitch is set for 12:30. After that, it’s back to ACC play with Georgia Tech in Atlanta the weekend of the 25th.
