Senior Spotlight | Liam Griffin

Hey there! My name is Liam Griffin and I’m a senior Broadcast and Digital Journalism major. I’ve been involved at CitrusTV since the fall of my freshman year, more specifically in the sports department. I’ve been the Executive Producer of No Pulp, in charge of the sports department’s technical directors, and held various on-air roles.

What is your favorite thing you have done as part of CitrusTV?

My favorite thing I’ve done at CitrusTV was produce the first hour-long live show in No Pulp history. I noticed each of the three other full-length shows in the department had at least one big live show every year, so when I took over as EP I sought to change that. I identified March Madness as a key moment, more specifically the national championship. After that, I, along with my wonderful APs Sean Dempsey, Sam Corcoran, and Carson Fowler, produced an hour-long live show recapping both the men’s and women’s tournaments and previewing the men’s national championship game that night. It truly was One Shining Moment!

What are some of the things you have learned at CitrusTV?

The biggest thing I’ve learned is that hard work will get you where you want to be. CitrusTV doesn’t just hand you opportunities, you have to work your tail off for them. Whether it’s something like running a prompter or anchoring/hosting a sports show, that’s not just gift-wrapped on a silver platter. I’ve also grown as a person through learning how to work with people from different walks of life, improving my communication skills, but trumping all of that, doing something as simple as being kind goes a VERY long way.

Would you recommend joining CitrusTV to an incoming freshman?

Absolutely! There are few places on campus that push you to be the best version of yourself more than CitrusTV. You’re going to meet so many incredible people and get so many incredible opportunities. I met so many of my best friends in college through CitrusTV. I could not be more grateful to this station!

What do you plan to do after graduation?

The plan is to work in some form of sports media, one day covering the biggest events in the country and world!
