Palo Alto, Calif. | The hardest schedule in the country continues to get the better of #13 Syracuse Women’s Lacrosse (0-3, 0-2 ACC). SU is 0-3 for the first time since 2000 after an 8-6 loss to #3 Stanford (4-0, 2-0 ACC).

The Cardinal never trailed, but the game saw four ties.

The sides traded goals in the first 15 minutes before Stanford scored two straight to close the quarter with a 4-2 lead. Midfielder Molly Guzik led the way early for SU with two goals, bringing her season total to five.

The Orange and Cardinal spent the rest of the evening taking turns on two-goal bursts. Goals from SU attack Ashlee Volpe and midfielder Bri Peters tied the game at four at the half.

Stanford ruled the third quarter, adding two more goals to lead 6-4. SU attacker Caroline Trinkaus scored two early in the fourth and tied it up again, but Stanford buckled down from then on, scoring the game’s final two goals to earn the win.

Trinkaus has a pair of goals in every game so far this year, leading the Orange with six scores on the season. Guzik’s five are second on the team.

Stanford doubled up Syracuse in shots on goal (14-7), but Orange netminder Daniella Guyette was up to the challenge, saving nine in the loss. Another positive for SU came on the draw. The Orange won 10 to the Cardinal’s six.

Despite the 0-3 start, Syracuse has shown promise for the remainder of the season. The Orange have kicked off their season with the three top teams in the latest Inside Lacrosse media poll.

SU plays its first weeknight game against #19 Loyola (1-2, 1-0 Patriot League) on Tuesday. First-time head coach Regy Thorpe remains without his first win at the helm.
