WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- It was no secret that the Syracuse (2-2-3, Atlantic Coast 0-1-1) was in for an incredibly tough match Saturday.
After five straight home games, the Orange traveled down to North Carolina to face the nation’s best team, no. 1 Wake Forest (6-1, Atlantic Coast 2-0).

SU held their own though, and their effort resulted in a scoreless match at halftime.

Wake Forest, however, took the lead in the 63’ and never looked back. Midfielder/Forward Justin McMaster scored Wake’s goal. It was the junior’s third goal of the season.

The goal was all the Demon Deacons needed in the 1-0 victory.

Though Syracuse fought admirably, they could not generate enough chances to challenge WFU truly. SU got off just one shot on goal in the match, off of only eight shots in total.

Wake’s goal also ensured that they would not be toppled again by Syracuse this season. Last year at SU Soccer Stadium, the Orange defeated Wake Forest 2-0. The Demon Deacons, who were also no. 1 in the country at the time of the match last year, dropped a spot to No. 2 after the defeat.

Up next for SU, the Orange travel back to Central New York to face Colgate (1-2-4, Patriot League 0-0-1) in Hamilton, NY.

Last year, the Cuse tied the Raiders 1-1 in 2OT. Then-Sophomore Sondre Norheim scored the lone goal for the Orange.

The match will kick off at seven on Tuesday, September 24th
