After trailing 10-6 at halftime, it looked like Syracuse Women’s Lacrosse was about to drop to 1-3 on the season. However, the Orange answered the call in its 16-14 upset road win.

For Syracuse, everything changed in the third quarter. SU turned in its best 15 minutes of the season. The Orange scored six goals and out-shot the Irish eight to one. While SU was great, Notre Dame will be disappointed with its second half. After scoring 10 goals in the first half, ND only found the back of the net twice in the last 30 minutes. The Irish committed multiple penalties that gave SU free-position shots and man-up opportunities. SU finished the contest five for six on free-position shots.

Throughout the contest, two players stood out for Syracuse. At the start of the year, you would think that would be Emma Tyrrell and Emma Ward. But today, it was Natalie Smith and Olivia Adamson. The duo combined for ten points. The two have been great this season. The grad student and junior are both on track for career-best years.

Another thing that fueled SU’s comeback was the draw controls. The Orange won the battle at x 18-15. However, it dominated in the 4th. Syracuse won six of the eight draw controls. This allowed the Orange to control the pace of play for the final 15 minutes. Due to this, Notre Dame could not get enough clean chances to score.

Syracuse improves to 2-2 on the season. SU is back in action next weekend against Duke. Opening draw from the JMA Wireless dome is set for noon.
