MOON TOWNSHIP, P.A. – At the start of the third period, the Orange and Colonials stood at one goal apiece. However, Robert Morris (6-6-0, 3-1 CHA) prevailed 3-2 and completed the weekend series sweep after outscoring Syracuse women’s ice hockey (3-9-1, 0-4 CHA) 2-1 in the final frame. The Orange are still in the hunt for their first CHA win of the season with four conference contests in the books.

Unlike the first 20 minutes on Friday, there was no goal explosion. Syracuse forced numerous turnovers in the Robert Morris zone and outshot the Colonials 11-8, but couldn’t find a way past Maggie Hatch.

The middle period picked up in pace early when Syracuse snagged a 1-0 advantage after Sarah Thompson redirected a Rachel Teslak point shot into the back of the net. It was the senior’s third goal of the season and the 23rd of her 100-game SU career. Six minutes later, however, Mya Neugent fed Shailynn Snow in front, and Snow capitalized for her second goal of the weekend to even the contest.

Deja vu struck Syracuse early in the third period, as former Syracuse forward Madison Primeau gave Robert Morris the lead halfway through the frame against her former team. Less than two minutes later, the Orange responded in style on the power play, with Kailey Langefels picking out the top corner on a one-timer rocket from the right point to tie the game. That would not last long, as Lindsey Smolen netted the game-winner along with her first collegiate goal after backhanding the puck past the outstretched blocker of Kelley.

After dropping their fifth straight game, the Orange will benefit from a weekend of rest. On November 17th and 18th, Syracuse will host Lindenwood at Tennity Ice Pavilion for Alumni Weekend.
