SYRACUSE, N.Y. — After two periods, Syracuse ice hockey (6-11-2, 4-5-1 Atlantic Hockey America) was tied with RPI (4-13-0, 1-7-0 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Hockey Hockey) 1-1. Then, SU’s offense stepped up in the final 20 minutes and scored two goals to walk away with the victory.
It started with forward Nea Tervonen winning the first faceoff of the third period. Syracuse got off four shots in the first four minutes of the final period before Tervonen scored off an assist from forward Jackson Kinsler and defender Maya D’Arcy. Shortly after, RPI got on the power play after a body-checking penalty from forward Mik Todd. Over the course of the next nine minutes, the Engineers fired 10 shots, all of which either missed or were blocked by an Orange defender. After RPI emptied its net with 2:30 remaining, defender Charlotte Hallett scored her fourth goal of the season to extend the lead and keep Syracuse in front for good. SU outshot RPI 35-25 over the course of the contest. The faceoffs were the one bright spot for the Engineers. RPI had 33 faceoff wins compared to Syracuse’s 18.
Goalie Ava Drabyk once again held it down defensively for the Orange. The freshman had 24 saves and a .960 save rate. That’s the netminder’s second straight game with a .960 save rate. Drabyk has had 14 games with a .900 save rate or better, including her first career shutout against Delaware (2-14-0, 1-9-0 AHA) on Oct. 18th.
Syracuse squares off with RPI again Saturday to wrap up its two-game series. Puck drop is at 4 p.m. EST from Houston Field House in Troy, N.Y. For coverage of the Orange’s next contest and the entire first-half of SU’s 2025-26 season, follow @JaredValentin_ and @CitrusTVSports on X/Twitter!
