EARLYSVILLE, VA. – The 11th-ranked Syracuse Men’s Cross Country team placed just outside the podium at the Virginia Invitational on the eight-kilometer Panorama Farms course. Saturday’s field contained 14 of the top 30 teams in the nation, including top-ranked Northern Arizona, who took the top spot, and No. 3 BYU, who finished runner-up.
Redshirt Senior Paul O’Donnell was the Orange’s top finisher, placing 19th at 23:42.3, just over 22 seconds behind the winning time set by Northern Arizona’s Drew Bosley. Cornell transfer Perry Mackinnon was just five seconds behind in 31st. Sam Lawler, Assaf Harari, and Alex Comerford came in at just under 24 minutes in 35th, 38th, and 44th respectively.
Matthew Scrape, Ethan Wechsler, Alex Herbst, Julian Franjieh, and Joey Eovaldi all finished 100th or lower for Head Coach Brien Bell’s squad.
‘Cuse finished with 167 points, 10 behind No. 6 North Carolina, who placed third. Saturday marked the first time the Syracuse men’s squad hasn’t won a meet this year after taking the two opening meets at Colgate and Penn State.
The Orange are back in action on Friday, September 29th just outside of Boston at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown hosted by Boston College. Last year, SU finished seventh in a 15-team field.
