The fast start continues for the Men’s Syracuse cross country team at the John Reif Memorial after finishing with seven runners in the top 10.

The Orange traveled to Cornell for the John Reif memorial on Friday to take part in a historical event that has been taking place since 1987. Syracuse was clearly inspired for their last regular season matchup, leading to a dominant performance.

Going into the meet, the number four proved to be a special number for the orange this week. On Tuesday, the men’s cross country team received their highest ranking since 2017, moving up to four. On Friday, the men’s team matched that number, sweeping the top four spots at John Reif Memorial.

Redshirt senior Noah Carey was able to lead the pack finishing in first. The former Penn transfer was able to finish with a time of 14:44.8. Fellow freshmen Connor Ackley and Benne Anderson were able to finish right behind him. Ackley finished with a time of 14:47.3 and Anderson finished with a time of 14.50.4. The top three finishers were all unattached. Redshirt sophomore Gabriel Planty ranked fourth with 15:06.7. The other Syracuse top 10 finishers included Alex Herbst (15:30.1), Noah Beveridge (15:30.1), and Patrick Malone (15:32.8) finishing consecutively eight, ninth and 10th. Eamon Burke (15:50.7), Joey Hendershot (16:13.6), and Kamri Miller (16:42.3) also competed for the Orange.

Next Friday, the Orange travel to Tallahassee, Florida, the home of the Florida State Seminoles, for the ACC Championship. Around this time last year, the men were runner-up in the event to champion Wake Forest. They finished with 86 points. This time around they are going into the championship game atop the conference. The team looks to continue to ride that momentum not only by continuing to rise in the rankings but to a conference championship as well.
