Monroe, LA – After two innings, Syracuse Softball had a 6-0 lead and looked like it would cruise to its third win in the Best of the Bayou Classic. In the third inning, the Demons offense came alive, scoring 4, and then in the sixth, they added five to beat the Orange 11-8.

In the first, two singles, a walk, and a hit by pitch led to three runs for SU. In the second, Syracuse tallied three singles and two stolen bases en route to an early 6-0 lead. At the top of the third, things turned for the worse.

Syracuse starter Lindsey Hendrix didn’t give up a hit in the first two innings and only had one walk. But in the third, Hendrix gave up back-to-back home runs, and the Demons had life.

With NSU still down two, it shut down SU in the bottom of the third to add another in the top of the 4th, making it a one-run game. While the Orange responded with two runs in the bottom half, neither team scored in the fifth. All signs pointed towards the Orange handled the offensive attempt from the Demons. In the sixth, that all changed.

Julianna Verni gave up three walks and a single. Then Jessie DiPasquale gave up one hit, one walk, and one hit. In total, the Demons tallied five runs and could have scored more. Ashlyn Walker tried to go first to third on the singles but was tagged out.

Regardless, nine runs in the third and sixth combined was too much for the orange to overcome, and SU takes its first loss in 4 games. Syracuse can get back on track later tonight as it takes on Hosting Louisiana at Monroe. The Orange beat the Warhawks yesterday 6-1.
