WATERBURY, C.T. – Syracuse women’s ice hockey finished a series sweep over Post, winning the series finale 3-2 on Saturday afternoon. For the first time in the program’s 16-year history, SU improved to 2-0 while surviving a scare during the road victory.

Once again, the ‘Cuse dominated the offensive zone, pelting Hannah Saunders in net with 40 shots. With less than eight minutes remaining in the first period, sophomore Mik Todd scored for just the second time in her collegiate career to give the Orange the 1-0 advantage.

The game stalled in the second period as both sides exchanged shots, until freshman Nea Tervonen scored on a Post mistake from a distance. The Finland native doubled the ‘Cuse advantage while recording her first point on U.S. soil.

Two minutes later, defenseman Charlotte Hallett was penalized for interference, and Post took full advantage as Sajel Desai scored their first goal of the season, trimming SU’s lead to 2-1. The underclassmen continued to contribute for Orange in the final stanza, as freshman Haley Trudeau cleaned up the loose trash in front of the Eagle goal to put the ‘Cuse up 3-1.

Post earned its third power play of the contest later in the period. The SU lead was whittled down once more to 3-2 after forward Macy Peterson delivered a shot past Allie Kelley more than a minute into the woman-up advantage. After a few desperate Eagles attempts, the Orange defense held strong in the final minutes and escaped western Connecticut with two victories in the early going.

SU faces the Merrimack Warriors in this year’s home opener on Friday, October 6th. The teams have only met once, in 2022, when they split the series in North Andover, MA. Gametime is slated to begin at 6:00 p.m. Follow @Dellie_5 on X for live in-game updates and coverage for everything Syracuse women’s ice hockey all semester long.
