In Syracuse’s matchup with Clarkson earlier this season, the Orange was blanked in a 5-0 shutout in Tennity Ice Pavilion. SU wasn’t shut out on the road last night, but struggled again, in a 4-1 loss in Potsdam.

The Orange’s offensive woes from this past weekend continued into Tuesday’s matchup, with the SU being outshot for the 3rd straight game.

The Golden Knights got on the board early, taking a two-score lead in the first period. Clarkson’s first goal came courtesy of Michaela Boyle at 11:34, while Loren Gabel put one past Abbey Miller with 2:16 to go.

Syracuse scored one goal on the night, coming off the stick of Stephanie Grossi early in the second period. The goal was a milestone for Grossi, as she is now tied for first place with 2016 grad Melissa Piacentini on the all-time points list with 112. She is also SU’s all-time career assist leader and ranks second in all-time career goals.

The Golden Knights responded to Grossi quickly, with Boyle finding the back of the net for the second time near the end of the second period. Rhyen McGill sealed the deal for Clarkson, padding the Golden Knights’ lead to three with just over five minutes to go in the game.

Despite giving up four goals for the second straight game, Orange goalie Abbey Miller played stout in net, tallying 30 saves on the evening, her ninth game with 30 or more saves this season. The defense around Miller also gave plenty of effort, blocking a total of 19 shots in the game.

Syracuse won’t take the ice again until next Tuesday when SU visits Cornell.
