NEW YORK — Syracuse Women’s Tennis began this season 4-0 with all four wins coming from Drumlins Country Club. Today it faced its first road test of the year. SU traveled down to the Big Apple to face Columbia (5-1). In simplest terms, the Orange looked homesick, as they fell to the Lions in a 5-2 loss. Syracuse suffers their first loss of the season earlier than they did a year ago, but still boast a 4-1 record on the campaign.

For the most part, it was an extremely competitive match. In doubles, SU swept all three but not without a challenge. Doubles #3 was pushed to a seventh game, while doubles #2 ended in a 7-6 tiebreaker. The good graces ran out for SU when singles came around though. Both Junior Miyuka Kimoto and Senior Viktoriya Kanapatskaya lost in straight sets, while Grad Student Polina Kozyreva, Junior Shiori Ito, and Sophomore Emily Elde lost in heartbreaking three-set fashion. The lone singles win for the Orange belonged to sophomore Anastasia Sysoeva.

Syracuse can travel back up to Central New York and regroup. The Orange have a weekend off before hosting Boston College and UMass two weeks from today. Both matches will be played at Drumlins Country Club and begin at 11 a.m.
