RALEIGH, N.C. – Syracuse Tennis (6-8, 2-5 in Atlantic Coast Conference) continued its road stand against #9 NC State (14-5, 6-1 in Atlantic Coast Conference) this afternoon.

Syracuse came into the duel with a plan: shake up duels to take advantage of NCSU’s pairings. But, regardless of the change, the Orange struggled in doubles. No. 1 Nelly Knezkova & Lenna Benneto were swept 6-0, and No. 3 Constance Levivier & Monika Wojcik fell 6-2. Doubles match number two went unfinished (5-3), and SU lost the doubles point.

With four NC State singles players in the top 100, it was never going to be easy for Syracuse in singles. The Orange dropped five of six opening sets, with Monika Wojcik taking the lone victory 6-4. Anastasia Sysoeva and Emma Scaldalai both lost 6-2, Shastova fell 6-3, and Knezkova lost 6-3.

The Cuse was already in deep hope after set one, meaning they had to push a third set in four singles matches, but the Wolfpack were simply too strong. Bennetto lost her second set 6-1 to hand NC State its second point of the day. Shastova quickly followed, falling 6-4, 6-1.

And the saying goes, “when it rains, it pours”. Down 3-0, SU lost three matches within the span of five minutes after that. Anastasia Sysoeva fell 6-2, 6-3 to #44 Mia Slama. Emma Scaldalai lost 6-2, 6-2 to Amelie Smejkalova. Nelly Knekova dropped 6-3, 6-1 to #65 Anna Zyryanova. Monika Wojcik fell shortly after in a tiebreaking second set.
