Syracuse volleyball left the Kathy Deboer tournament still in search of its first win. The Orange fell to Belmont earlier today.

The first set was extremely close. Syracuse fell behind 12-8 thanks to a few errors. But, the Orange wouldn’t go away quietly. Syracuse found a good rhythm on serve to tie the set at 15. However, Belmont responded and built a big lead at the end of the set. Syracuse did make one final charge but couldn’t make up the difference. The Bruins held on and took the first set 25-23.

The second set was very similar to the first. Syracuse started out strong and built themselves a five-point lead. However, the Orange couldn’t hold on for long. Belmont quickly charged back and stole the set 25-22 in credit to a solid defensive effort.

Set three was a different story. It was all Belmont from the start. The Bruins took an early 5-2 lead and never looked back. The Orange started to look a little tired while Belmont was able to keep its players fresh by constantly rotating. Before SU could look, the Bruins finished the set 25-16 to complete the sweep.

Syracuse falls to 0-6 this season. They will travel to Colgate next to take on the Raiders later in the week.
