CORAL GABLES, F.L. — When Syracuse women’s basketball (18-4, 2-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) battled Georgia Tech (9-13, 4-6 ACC) Thursday evening, Orange guards Laila Phelia and Dominique Darius combined for 43 points to lead SU to its seventh conference victory of the 2025-26 campaign. In Sunday’s matchup against Miami (12-0, 4-7 ACC), Syracuse got a similar performance from its backcourt. This time, Phelia and guard Sophie Burrows put up 21 points each to combine for 43 and lead the Orange to their second straight conference win.
Starting with the Texas transfer, Phelia got the bulk of her 21 points from the foul line. The senior buried a season-high 12 free throws on 12-14 shooting from the charity stripe. Free throws aside, the guard shot 4-12 from the field, converted on a three in the first quarter and also supplied five assists. Additionally, Phelia was the only player to play in all 40 minutes of the contest. The guard has scored at least 15 points in four of her last five games.
While Phelia was drawing contact and getting to the line, Burrows was splashing three after three. 15 of the junior’s 21 points came off a season-high five triples. The guard shot 5-11 from distance, 7-14 from the field and buried both free throws on her lone trip to the charity stripe. It’s the fourth time in the 2025-26 campaign that the guard has scored at least 21 points and the second time that Burrows has hit five threes in a game this season.
On the flip side, Miami center Ra Shaya Kyle led the way for the Hurricanes with 13 points and a team-high 8 rebounds. Guard Gal Raviv also knotted 13, but had seven assists and turnovers. Miami as a team racked up 18 turnovers to Syracuse’s nine.
Both guards and the rest of Syracuse’s offense can have another strong performance when it visits Boston College (4-19, 0-10 ACC) Thursday. The Eagles have lost 15 games in a row. Tipoff is at 6 p.m. EST from Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, M.A. For all coverage of the second-half of SU’s season, follow @JaredValentin_ and @mhoffnyc on X/Twitter!
