While it might have been the first game of the season for Syracuse Tennis, it was nothing but domination from the Orange as they handled business quite comfortably 7-0 against NJIT.

A key aspect of this win for Syracuse was a very strong start in doubles, winning all three doubles matches and carrying over some momentum into singles.

“I thought the team did a great job starting at doubles and getting those W’s in doubles. Obviously, it gave us a lot of confidence going into the singles and using that momentum. First match of the season is never easy, you have the nerves and have to be able to adapt but I thought the team responded very well and I’m proud of them,” said Head Coach Younes Limam.

While Syracuse dominated this match from start to finish, there were a few surprises regarding the lineup choice in singles for the Orange. That included the selection of Miyuka Kimoto at 1st singles, a role that she is relatively unfamiliar with. However, Coach Limam had plenty of praise for the sophomore.

“How she finished the match, it’s not very easy to close a match against a quality player and hopefully that will give her a lot of confidence moving forward and getting ready for tomorrow,” said Limam.

Starting the season off very strong, Syracuse will look to carry some momentum into tomorrow’s contest when the Orange face the Terriers of Boston University. That will start at 10 am.
