Syracuse Men’s Soccer Beats Virginia Tech in 1st round of ACC Tournament
35 mph wind gusts, torrential downpour. That’s just postseason soccer for number six seed Syracuse. Tonight, SU advanced to the ACC tournament quarterfinals with a 2 to 1 win over Virginia Tech. Orange head coach Ian McIntyre knew his squad had it in him the whole time.
“Uh nothing that we didn’t know like uh talked to our guys uh in before the game about um being you know that our team is is evolved and grown and and built into a team that can win uh soccer matches this time of year. We know that a team with a lot of character uh toughness um and found as I said found a way. It wasn’t pretty um but I think we deserved to advance tonight.”
One test passed for Syracuse and another big one looming. SU advances to take on the number three seed NC State on Sunday. The Orange and
Wolfpack met just a week ago in Raleigh and ended in a 1-1 draw. McIntyre expects another fun one down south.
“Now, look, I’m sure we poked the bear. I’m sure they’re uh uh I’m sure you’re they’re going to be delighted to be seeing us going back down there. But this uh I like our group and uh as I said, we’ll we’ll rest up and we’ll go down there and uh uh fight a good fight on Sunday whenever the game is uh we get to play.”
Syracuse needs another win to keep its NCAA tournament hopes alive. The Orange can pick up that massive resume boosting win with a victory over the Wolfpack.
