Syracuse Men’s Soccer Defeats #22 North Carolina 1-0 on Senior Day

After back-to-back losses last week, Syracuse men’s soccer was looking to turn things around at home on Senior Day against No. 22 North Carolina. And that’s exactly what the Orange did, with a 1-0 win over the Tar Heels. And in net, SU goalie Tomas Hut had a total of 8 saves, including the game-clinching one in the 88th minute. Orange head coach Ian McIntyre credited the keeper’s resilience throughout the contest.
“In our wins this year, he’s had to make a save and look, as I said, it’s a terrific UNC team that kept pushing and pushing, and that one big save, I think we did a really good job of defending them, but you need your goalkeeper to make that play, and he did.”
Along with Hut, there’s no better time to step up than in crunch time. Being at the end of the season and the second-to-last game, it was the freshman Landon Darko with his first career goal that sealed the deal for the Orange.
“I think it’s just a reminder of how good we are and it’s a good confidence booster, especially heading into next week, so the team morale is going to be high, and that’s what we went for and that’s what coach wanted and that’s what we wanted.”
After tonight’s win, SU has one more regular-season contest remaining. It’s a test down south against number three NC State in North Carolina on Halloween night next Friday at 7 p.m. is kickoff.
