Common Council Reviews VEO Bike/Scooter Contract
SYRACUSE, N.Y (CITRUSTV NEWS) — On Wednesday morning, Common Council met to discuss renewing a contract with Veo Inc.
Veo pointed to the link between low income and low car ownership explaining that e-bikes and scooters are critical for transportation.
According to Veo each bike averages at least one ride per day. Although, Syracuse University students as the lowest percentage of VEO users, there are still parking concerns on SU’s campus.
“I was on [Syracuse University’s] campus one day and I saw a mound full of [VEO] bikes,” said the Chair of Transportation Committee and First District Council Member, Marine Nave.
Council members raised their concerns about children riding veos, improper parking, intoxicated use and the risk of lithium battery fires.
Veo introduced many new AI powered programs that help with the safety concerns listed.
“You, the rider, have a lot of responsibility to take appropriate actions. [VEO is] also responsible to constituents as a whole” said the Director of Special Projects, Neil Burke.
Veo and the Common Council plan to come to an agreement on Monday.
