A Trio of SU Women’s Basketball Players Enter Transfer Portal

Syracuse N.Y. – The transfer portal is back at it again this offseason for the Syracuse Women’s Basketball program. During the week of March 21st, three players announced their intention to enter the portal.
Two of those three were starters this past season. Chrislyn Carr and Christianna Carr, who both started all 29 games for the Orange this season, averaging 14.2 PPG and 11.7 PPG respectively, revealed March 23rd that they would enter the portal. Both Carrs, no relation, transferred into the SU program after spending three years at Texas Tech and Kansas State respectively.
“I will always be proud to have received a degree from Syracuse University! But I believe it is in my best interest to explore other opportunities that may present themselves. All that being said, I will be entering the transfer portal as a grad transfer seeking the best avenue for me and my family as I continue to chase my dreams in my final year of eligibility,” Chrislyn Carr said as part of her statement on Twitter.
The Davenport, Iowa, native played a major facilitator role in the Syracuse offense this past season. Her 14.2 PPG and 2.7 APG were both second on the team behind all-ACC honorable mention Teisha Hyman. Chrislyn is a career 15.1 PPG and 3.8 APG player who will now look for her final home during the course of her college career.
Christianna on the other hand is a career 11.4 PPG and 3.7 RBG guard. The Eden Prairie, Minnesota, native took a step back offensively in her only season in Orange. After averaging career highs in PPG, RBG, and APG in her final season at Kansas State, number 43 couldn’t quite replicate that offensive production in Central New York.
“Due to the coaching change and the movement within the program, I have decided to enter the transfer portal as a grad transfer with 1 remaining year of eligibility. I think it is best for my future if I weigh out all of my options for my final year of college basketball” the senior wrote in her statement on Twitter.
Finally, freshman guard Julianna Walker also announced her intention to transfer from the program. The Tacoma, Washington, native came off the bench in each of the 14 games she appeared in, playing an average of 6.4 MPG in each of those games. She still has three years of undergraduate eligibility remaining.
After last off-season’s mass exodus from the program that saw 12 players transfer, and now disgraced Head Coach Quentin Hillsman resign amid an investigation into multiple instances of misconduct and bullying, the Syracuse Women’s Basketball program was in shambles. The Carrs and Walker were three of the nine incoming players who were tasked with the rebuilding project.
On March 4th Syracuse University Athletic Director John Wildhack announced that the school would begin its search for a new head coach for the program. Acting Head Coach Vonn Read led the program to an 11-18 overall record, 4-14 in ACC play. Read was promoted in August a couple months before the beginning of the season after being an assistant coach in the program for 10 years.
One of the nation’s strongest programs over the past 15 years with multiple NCAA tournament appearances, and an NCAA finals appearance in 2016, is in desperate need of some stability.
