Syracuse Offense Falters Again, Falls to Miami 1-0

MIAMI, F.L.- Syracuse (3-9 overall, 0-4 in ACC) entered Saturday’s match against Miami (4-6-2 overall, 1-3 in ACC) looking to snap its six-game losing streak. Unfortunately, the Orange offense once again struggled, falling to Miami 1-0. The Orange now has lost its last seven matches, which is its longest losing streak since at least 2001.

Both offenses struggled to find open space. Syracuse only posted two shots on goal, while Miami had three. The difference is that the Hurricanes were able to find the back of the net. Freshman forward Gudrun Haralz got past the ‘Cuse defense and scored in the 32nd minute. Miami did have 18 shots total however, while Syracuse only had six. The absence of leading scorer Kate Hostage (ankle injury) was surely felt.

Once again, coach Phil Wheddon played two keepers again. Sophomore Lysianne Proulx started the first half and allowed a goal with no saves. Redshirt senior Jordan Harris started the second and had two saves. It appears that Wheddon will continue to play two goalies for the foreseeable future.

With the 1-0 loss, Syracuse has yet to score a goal in four games of ACC play. The Orange has now been held scoreless in over 400 minutes of play. In the seven-game losing streak, SU has been outscored 18-2.

Following the loss at Miami, Syracuse returns home on Thursday to take on #21 North Carolina State. The Wolfpack is currently 8-2-2 on the season and 2-1 in ACC play. That game is scheduled for 7pm in SU Soccer Stadium.
