Comeback falls short as Syracuse loses to RIT 5-3

Rochester, NY —- On a pretty wild night in CNY, Syracuse needed to be ready for a quick start for their game against RIT. They unfortunately were not, giving up 4 first period goals in quick succession.
Syracuse has struggled coming off of their winter break, picking up only one win in their first five games. Before Syracuse went out on the road for three games, there was a sense of opportunity and optimism among the team and coaching staff. The Orange only picked up one win, and dropped games to two of the bottomfeeders of the CHA.
Tonight was a close one as Sarah Thompson did just about everything she could to get SU back into this game. After going down 4-0, she scored two goals in the 2nd period to get the Orange back within two. After Madi Primeau netted her 10th of the season, there was hope for the Orange. The Tigers had other plans, and locked down the defensive side of the ice.
Syracuse will get a second crack at RIT tomorrow back at home, and they will be looking for their first win at Tennity in the Spring semester.
If Syracuse hopes to take home that win they will need to be much better at managing momentum. SU has been able to hang with teams like Colgate, holding them scoreless for a period, but they have a habit of giving up goals in quick succession, and tonight was an excellent example of that.
One consistent bright spot for Syracuse has been their captain Lauren Bellefontaine. The Grad Student has recorded a point in every single game since the start of the 2nd half, and her knowledge of the technical side of hockey shows every single time the team steps on the ice.
