Syracuse Volleyball fell to Notre Dame in straight sets earlier today. Despite fighting hard Syracuse couldn’t play the big points well enough.
Both teams started strong on offense. Toward the latter stages of the set Syracuse looked like they were gonna pull out the first set. SU hitter Cherlin Antonio served an ace to give the Orange an 18-16 lead. However, the Irish answered with a 4-0 scoring run to take a two-point lead. SU battled from there and managed to save a set point to get to 24 all. Unfortunately, the Orange would commit two unforced errors from there giving Notre Dame the first set 26-24.
Set two was all Irish from start to finish. Notre Dame started the set up 8-3 and never looked back. The Irish posted a 63% kill percentage and did not commit a single error. Before you could blink, Notre Dame closed out the second set 25-9.
Similar to the first set, both teams started well in the third. Both teams split the first 18 points before both teams would trade 3-0 scoring runs. Despite committing multiple service errors in the third set, the Orange held a 15-13 lead. However, from that point on it was all Irish. Notre Dame would go on a 9-0 scoring running to give them a comfortable 22-15 lead. From that point, the Irish would close out the set 25-18 to complete the sweep.
One positive for Syracuse was the unbelievable play of Cherlin Antonio. The transfer posted a team-high 19 kills and 20 points. The Orange fall to 2-10 on the season and 0-2 in ACC play. They will have four days off before traveling to take on Virginia.
