CHARLESTON, SC – After a day full of ups and downs yesterday, Syracuse softball was looking for more consistency, especially from its pitching on day two of the Lowcountry Classic. That’s exactly what the ‘Cuse got in game one. The Orange won an extra-innings instant classic in game one of the doubleheader against Rutgers. The game was a classic pitcher’s duel in which the Orange won 2-1. Syracuse and Rutgers both scored their runs in the 2nd inning. After the 2nd, both teams got on base a decent amount. Rutgers stranded 9 runners on, and Syracuse stranded 7. The gridlock continued until the top of the 8th inning when Ryan Starr, who started the inning on 2nd base, stole 3rd base and then scored on an error by the catcher.

In the circle, Madison Knight got the start and went 4.2 innings, allowing only 4 hits and the one run. Kaia Oliver came in, in relief and shut the door allowing just one hit in 3.1 innings.

In game two, it was Lindsey Hendrix who got the nod for the ‘Cuse. Hendrix got her first winning decision of the year last night in the win over Charleston. The goal for the southpaw was back-to-back wins. Hendrix didn’t get the start that she would have hoped, giving up two runs in the 1st inning. However, the Orange bounced back right away with three runs in the 2nd. The latter two runs were both unearned. Hendrix then settled in and was dominant for the first time this season. The southpaw gave up no hits after the leadoff batter for the rest of the game. The 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th innings were all 1-2-3 innings for Hendrix.

The Orange are back in action tomorrow at 11 a.m. vs Rutgers. Stay tuned to my Twitter @adam_gotkin for all in-game updates.
