Syracuse Volleyball Gets Desired Fan Support in Win Over Siena

After Syracuse Volleyball’s (7-2, 0-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) home-and-home series loss to Colgate (5-5, 1-0 in Patriot League) last weekend, SU head coach Bakeer Ganesharatnam asked for more fan engagement.

And oh boy, did he get it on Friday. Plenty of campus stars were in attendance for a 3-0 sweep of Siena (3-7, 0-0 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference), including men’s basketball head coach Adrian Autry, plenty of men’s and women’s basketball players, and men’s and women’s lacrosse stars.

Ganesharatnam was very pleased with the turnout.

“I think our teams in general do a really good job supporting each other,” Ganesharatnam said. “We’re very, very thankful for all the players and coaches that come out and watch us play. We do the best we can to return the favor.”

“I think the coaches community is very tight and I think that applies to the student athletes as well throughout all the sports here,” Ganesharatnam added. “It’s not a given thing when you compare that to other institutions.”

“I think it’s really important [that student athletes support each other] because we need that energy,” SU setter Veronica Sierzant, who recorded a season-high 10 kills in the win. “We need people here to keep us going. It’s nice to have that support because we support other teams and they might as well support us too.”

SU can ride the wave of fan support when it meets St. John’s (3-8, 0-0 Big East) tomorrow to conclude the Syracuse Invitational and its non-conference slate.
