Syracuse Tennis played their first outdoor match in sunny Coral Gables today but couldn’t get a single point against #14 Miami, losing 4-0. The dual was originally delayed for weather for almost an hour, with sporadic showers throughout the evening making for less than ideal playing conditions. Friday’s dual marks the third time the Orange have been shut out this season, with all of those results away from home.

The doubles point was more or less a harbinger of what the afternoon had in store. #28 Daevenia Achong and Eden Richardson easily dismantled #86 Shiori Ito and Sonya Trescheva. The freshman/duo pair for the Orange were ranked in the Top 50 earlier this season, but failed to register a single game in their doubles match in Coral Gables on the #1 Court. On Court #2, #40 Miyuka Kimoto and Polina Kozyreva didn’t fare much better, as they were defeated by Tatyana Nikolenko and Maya Tahan, 6-4. Viktoriya Kanapatskaya and Ines Fonte’s match was halted to the schools could move on to singles, as the doubles point was already clinched.

Polina Kozyreva was bumped down to the #4 spot this week, marking the third consecutive week she’s been bumped down the singles seeding. She is still yet to find a win in her last 4 singles matches, after only winning one game in her match against Maya Tahan. Meanwhile, Miyuka Kimoto was promoted to singles seed #1 for the fifth time in 19 duals, but the freshman posted a measly 2 games in her loss against #31 Daevenia Achong. The last singles match to finish was Zeynep Erman’s. The junior competed out of the #3 slot but couldn’t repeat her valiance from last week against Boston College, losing in straight sets #80 Isabelle Pfennig, 6-1, 6-1. Fonte’s Kanapatskaya’s and Ito’s matches were all listed as unfinished, and the last 3 points were gone with the Hurricanes’ wins. The last dual for the Orange of the regular season is against Florida State on Sunday. Follow along @CitrusTVSports on Twitter for live updates throughout the afternoon.
