Syracuse Softball split their doubleheader with Binghamton on Wednesday afternoon, with the Orange winning the first game 4-2, and Binghamton taking the second game 12-3 in a run-rule victory. In game one, Syracuse started off strong, with Madelyn Lopez providing a leadoff baserunner, and Laila Alves knocking an RBI single for a 2-0 lead. Binghamton pulled a run back, and then leveled the score at 2-2 in the fourth. Syracuse regained the lead in the fifth when Tessa Galipeau and Angel Jasso each singled to put runners on, and then Alves hit a two-run RBI single. Syracuse finished game one with four runs on six hits, and Madelyn Knight threw a complete game, striking out a career-high seven batters while allowing two runs on five hits and two walks.

In game two, Syracuse scored first in the first inning with a solo home run from Kelly Breen. Binghamton then pulled ahead with a five-run rally in the fourth, capped by a three-run home run from Gabby Guerrero. Syracuse trimmed the lead to two runs in the fifth, but Binghamton responded with seven runs in the bottom of the fifth, including a three-run RBI double from Akira Kopec, to end the game 12-3 in a run-rule victory.

With this split, Syracuse’s record is now 15-22-1. The team will travel to Easton, Pennsylvania on Saturday, April 22, for a three-game series against Lafayette, before wrapping up their road trip at Cornell on April 26th. Every game is important for Syracuse Softball, with less than a month remaining in the season. The team currently sits in 11th place in the ACC, and needs to finish in the top ten to make the tournament at the end of the year. While the team had a strong showing in the first game of the doubleheader against Binghamton, they will need to improve their consistency and avoid giving up big innings if they hope to make the tournament.
