Syracuse Softball Dominates Lafayette in Doubleheader

The Syracuse softball team put on an impressive display of offense in a doubleheader against Lafayette, winning both games by a significant margin. The Orange bats generated a 10-2 run-rule victory in game one, followed by a 12-3 lead in game two before action was paused due to severe weather.

In game one, Syracuse got off to a strong start, scoring five runs in the first two innings. In the second inning, the Orange scored four runs on six consecutive hits, including a deep triple to center field from infielder Kelly Breen, doubling the Orange advantage to 4-0. Lafayette added two runs in the third inning, but Syracuse responded with a five-run sixth inning, securing the run-rule victory. Syracuse scored 10 runs on 15 hits while committing only one error. Starting pitcher Madison Knight threw her second consecutive complete game, striking out six batters while allowing two runs on six hits.

Game two saw Syracuse score in the first inning for the fourth consecutive game, bringing across three runs to open the second game of the doubleheader. The Orange maintained their rhythm throughout the game, with Breen hitting a deep shot to left field for her second home run in the last three games, providing ‘Cuse its fourth run of the game. Syracuse’s offense continued to produce runs, with a three-run home run from infielder Tessa Galipeau in the sixth inning putting the game out of reach.

Lafayette managed to score three runs in game two, but Syracuse’s offense proved too strong, scoring an additional three runs in the seventh inning. Play was paused in the seventh inning due to severe weather, with the game set to conclude the following day prior to the start of the series finale.

The Syracuse softball team will look to continue their strong offensive performance as they conclude their series against Lafayette. The series finale will be streaming live on ESPN+.
