Orange Comeback to Sweep Series Against Wake Forest

What a way to start the week for Syracuse. Syd Taylor notched a career high in saves with seven and kept the Orange’s chances alive in a game dominated by Wake Forest’s offense.
First half looked similar to yesterday’s game where Syracuse struggled offensively in the first 30 minutes. Wake Forest had several open chances in the first half of the game, with Syd Taylor coming out of the goal and putting her body on the line to make the save. By the end of the second quarter, the Orange were outshot 12-1 by Wake Forest with five of those shots on goal. Taylor made five of her seven saves in that time and kept Syracuse in the game.
Yesterday, Syracuse heated things up in the second half to win the game, but still couldn’t get their offense going heading out of the locker room. The game remained scoreless until the 47th minute, when Wake Forest would finally get one of their shots to convert to a goal. The Orange were in danger with the clock winding down, but offensively became more aggressive after the Wake Forest goal.
Eefke van den Niewenhof couldn’t have picked a better time to score her first career goal with 30 seconds left to go and forced the game into overtime. At the end of regulation, all the momentum was in the hands of Syracuse as they looked to leave Winston-Salem with two wins.
And that is just what they did. At the 66th minute, SJ Quigley slaps one in to send the Orange home with a sweep. The game would end there and Syracuse defeated Wake Forest 2-1 in a come-from-behind win.
The Orange are now even on the season, 3-3 overall and 2-2 in ACC play. They’ll have time to prepare before they take on a dangerous Louisville team at home on October 30th at 2 p.m.
