Yaw Bonsu, SYRACUSE, N.Y. – It was another nail-biting matchup for Syracuse as the Orange notched 4-3 victory over Notre Dame (7-5).

In doubles, Syracuse failed to secure the point for the second dual. Freshman Ines Fonte and Grad student Miranda Ramirez fell 1-6 to the Irish’s Yashna Yellayi and Julia Lilien. That was followed by Polina Kozyreva and Sofya Treshcheva losing 6-3 to senior Cameron Corse and sophomore Page Freeman.

A lack of chemistry played a huge role in the Orange getting swept in doubles play. Miranda Ramirez and Ines Fonte played only their second match together.

Singles play brought about a trend for both the Irish and the Orange. Up until the pivotal match seven, each team secured straight set victories.

Viktoriya Kanapatskaya and Polina Kozyreva won their matchups handily. Meanwhile Miranda Ramirez fell 4-6, 1-6 to Page Freeman and Ines Fonte lost 6-7, 3-6 to Maeve Koscielski.

With a 3-3 deadlock, all eyes were on Natalie Novotna and her No. 2 singles matchup with the Irish’s Ally Bojczuk.

After taking the first set 7-6, Novotna Lost the momentum, dropping the next one 2-6. However, in the decisive third set, a set of rallies coupled with a Bojczuk error in the eighth game, gave Novotna the 7-6, 2-6, 6-2 victory in the only match to go to three sets.

The Orange got back on track securing its third straight victory over Notre Dame. Next up, the Orange are back at Drumlins Country Club for a matchup with Virginia Tech on Friday.
