The Syracuse Orange softball team went into Saturday looking to win a series against the Charlotte 49ers after splitting a doubleheader yesterday.

The game started exactly as it did yesterday, as Gabby Teran hit a leadoff home run to put the Orange up 1-0. The home run was Teran’s second of the season and in as many days, as she has continued to have a hot bat during the Green and White Classic.

As always, the story of the game was insurance runs. This time, though, Syracuse found themselves on the opposite side of the conversation, as they continued to add runs throughout the game.

In the 4th inning with the game tied at one, Neli Casares-Maher launched a solo home run, putting the Orange up 2-1 at that point. In the next inning, the Orange exploded for three more runs off of an Angel Jasso RBI double followed by a Jude Padilla RBI single and a Neli Casares-Maher double.

The 49ers would come back to make things interesting, as Lindsey Walljasper and Imani Rochelle hit two solo home runs in the bottom of the 6th. Fortunately for the Orange, that would be the extent of the damage, as they went on to win the game and the series vs Charlotte, 5-3.

Lindsey Hendrix had an impressive outing giving up only 4 hits. She allowed no earned runs in 4.1 innings pitched.

In the second game of the day, the Orange found themselves down early after giving up a 2 run shot to Claudia Ware of the Campbell Camels. The Orange responded in the 4th inning with a Rebecca Clyde RBI single and a score off a fielding error, but it wouldn’t be enough, as Bri Bryant’s RBI single in the 6th inning put the Camels up for good, sending the Orange home with a 2-2 record in the Green and White Classic and 6-5 on the season.

The Orange will hit the field next week, March 19th, and begin ACC play vs Duke.
