Syracuse men’s soccer head coach Ian McIntyre made program history Tuesday night, becoming the Orange’s all-time winningest head coach with a 3-0 victory over Colgate at SU Soccer Stadium. The win marked McIntyre’s 142nd at Syracuse, surpassing former head coach Dean Foti’s total of 141 from 1991 to 2009.

The milestone came on a night when midfielder Carlos Zambrano delivered a hat trick, scoring three times in just eight minutes to give the Orange their first home win of the season. Zambrano converted a penalty kick in the 58th minute, followed it up with a curling corner kick goal in the 60th, and sealed the game in the 66th minute with a left-footed strike. He became the first Syracuse player to record a hat trick since Ryan Raposo in 2019.

For McIntyre, the historic night was a reminder of how far the program has come under his leadership. When he arrived at Syracuse in 2010, the team won only two games in his first season. “I never thought I’d be in this spot,” McIntyre said, reflecting on his journey.

Since then, McIntyre has built Syracuse into a national contender. He guided the Orange to their first NCAA Tournament victories in 2012, their first College Cup appearance in 2015, and the program’s first national championship in 2022. Along the way, the Orange have won two ACC titles and produced multiple professional players.

Overall, McIntyre owns a 142-102-52 record at Syracuse and a 246-162-82 mark in 26 seasons as a college head coach, which also includes stints at Hartwick and Oneonta State. He has twice been named ACC Coach of the Year (2014, 2022) and was recognized as National Staff of the Year in 2022 after leading Syracuse to its title run.

Now in his 15th season with the Orange, McIntyre has taken the program to heights few imagined when he first arrived. Tuesday’s victory over Colgate not only secured a much-needed result this season but also cemented his legacy as the winningest coach in Syracuse soccer history.
