After an unfamiliar year with two seasons, Syracuse picked up its sticks and took J.S. Coyne Stadium once again. SU took down Sacred Heart 7-0 in dominant fashion. The Orange won their fifteenth straight home opener. Louise Pert started in net for Syracuse and made one save in the shutout.

Pleun Lammers picked up right where she left off from last year for Syracuse. After a strong 2020-2021 campaign with five goals, the junior scored a hat trick in the home opener. The midfielder also added an assist in SU’s victory.

Lammers’ day started right away. The Dutch native scored just over a minute into the game. The junior’s shot from the top of the circle put the Orange on top 1-0 going into the second period.

The second quarter was even more Orange. Syracuse scored three goals. The first came from Clara Morrison. This marks the junior’s first career goal at SU, and she finished the day with three points. The midfielder’s tap-in came thirty seconds into the second period and everything opened up for Syracuse from there. Tess Queen buried a rebound to make it 3-0, and Pleun Lammers scored her second of the day with twenty seconds left in the half. The Orange went into the break with a 4-0 lead.

The second half featured familiar scoring heroes for SU. Tess Queen scored her second of the day in the fourth quarter. That goal came off of an assist from Lammers. Lammers also completed the hat trick with just four seconds remaining in the game. The Orange start the season 1-0 with a 7-0 victory over SHU. Syracuse has a quick turnaround though and will play Vermont this Sunday at J.S. Coyne Stadium. Game time is set for 2 PM.
