Matthew Moyer Announced Monday He is Leaving Syracuse Basketball

Former Syracuse redshirt freshman Matthew Moyer announced Monday afternoon via Twitter that he intends to transfer from the program.

Moyer appeared in 35 of 37 games this year for the Orange, averaging 16.8 minutes, 3.2 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. He scored a career-high 18 points on Dec. 5 against Connecticut at Madison Square Garden.

After coming to SU over Arizona State, Butler, Florida, Kansas State, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and Wisconsin, among others, Moyer redshirted his freshman year.

He now marks the third player to leave the program in the last calendar year. Taurean Thompson transferred to Seton Hall at the end of last year, and graduate transfer Geno Thorpe left the program for personal reasons after just six games.

Syracuse now gains an extra scholarship to offer other players.
