No. 20 Syracuse draws vs. Boston College 1-1; Stays Winless at BC since ‘90s

20th-ranked Syracuse Men’s Soccer remains winless since its first two matches of the season. SU tied BC 1-1 with both goals scored in the contest coming from the first half.
Fast Paced Offense
It started in the first 43 seconds. midfielder Gabe Threadgold scored off a cross from Michael Acquah to put the Orange ahead. 20 minutes later, the Eagles snatched their prey. Freshman Michael Asare equalized the match in the 22nd minute off an assist from Leo Guarino.
Defense Defense Defense
From that point, it turned chippy. Two first-half yellow cards (one by each team) and three in the second half (two on SU, one on BC) made it a tight contest down the stretch.
It wasn’t just the physicality of the two teams, but the incredible work in goal from Tomas Hut. The Syracuse keeper saved five shots tonight including two in the 89th minute of action to prevent Boston College from scoring a game-deciding goal. Hut used his entire body and lunged for every loose ball he could and it proved to be the difference for the Orange defensively.
Perfectly Balanced, As All Things Should Be
Overall, it was an extremely even contest. The Eagles had just two more shots than the Orange and one more corner kick. SU had three more saves than BC and four more fouls. There wasn’t much else from a soccer match you would have liked to see.
Moving Forward
The problem with the draw for the Orange: It drops them to 0-7-2 in the last 25 years when playing in Chestnut Hill. BC is as tough a customer as it comes to SU, and the Eagles wouldn’t go away easily.
Now Syracuse gets a full week of recovery until next Friday’s matchup against Virginia Tech back home at SU Soccer Stadium on Friday the 13th. Kickoff between the Orange and the Hokies is set for 7:30.
